Air Quality Management Plan(AQMP)
An AQMP is a strategic document that will assist
the eThekwini Municipality to achieve air quality management goals in a
structured, coordinated and measured manner.
The Pollution Control and Risk Management (PCRM) section of eThekwini Municipality’s Health Unit developed and implemented an Air Quality Management Plan (AQMP) in 2007. eThekwini Health Unit’s is embarking on a project to assess, evaluate, review, and update the AQMP in accordance with the requirements of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act (NEM:AQA) (Act No. 39 of 2004).
uMoya-NILU Consulting (Pty) Ltd was appointed to
assist eThekwini Municipality and lead the revision of the AQMP.
EVALUATION, REVIEW AND UPDATING OF THE AQMP FOR ETHEKWINI MUNICIPALITY |
All municipalities are required to develop an Air Quality Management Plan (AQMP) in terms of Section 15 of the National Environmental Management: Air Quality Act (Act No.39 of 2004) (NEM: AQA).
An AQMP is a strategic document with a vision and goals that strives to guide air quality management activities and ensure that air quality is not harmful to health and wellbeing. The Pollution Control and Risk Management (PCRM) section of eThekwini Municipality’s Health Unit developed and implemented an AQMP in 2007.
The Health Unit is embarking on a project to assess, evaluate, review, and update the AQMP in accordance with the requirements of the NEM: AQA and welcomes your participation.
AQMP Process
The AQMP review project for the eThekwini Municipality involves a number of steps, namely:
- Stakeholder participation
- Status quo assessment
- Identify air quality management gaps and issues
- Assess vision and mission of the 2007 AQMP
- Develop intervention strategies
- Develop action plans
- Monitoring and evaluation
